Crowns & Bridges, Dental Restoration, Cosmetic Dentistry, Bayonne, Jersey City, NJ
Crowns & Bridges are dental restorations which complete chipped, broken or missing teeth. Together with implants these restorations make up the bulk of cosmetic restorative dentistry.
Crowns
A Crown is used to completely cover a damaged or discolored tooth or special implant. Usually crowns are made of special fired porcelain and bonded with cement. A well made and affixed crown strengthens the damaged tooth and improves appearance and/or alignment. Dental crowns are often called caps, because they cover the tooth like a cap covers the head.
Crowns can be used to:
- Cover a dental implant
- Protect a weak tooth
- Replace a large filling on a crumbling tooth
- Restore a fractured or broken tooth
- Cover a discolored or misshaped tooth
- Cover a tooth after a root canal
- Attach a bridge
Bridges
A Bridge is a fixed partial denture which is meant to replace a missing tooth by joining the two adjacent teeth or implants permanently. Bridges are dental restorations which are ideal for situations where one tooth is missing, but the teeth on either side are healthy and strong. Different materials are used - ranging from gold alloy, to titanium for the frame with different color porcelain and other ceramics fused to it. No two patients are alike. This is why bridgework is more of an art than an exact science. Only years of experience and a talented eye can guarantee that the choice of materials and craftsmanship will make the bridge strong and unnoticeable.
